a walking performance over distance
with support of Performistanbul and LADA
supported by British Council’s#WomenPowerinCulture Grant Scheme
London/Istanbul
march-december 2020
A walking performance over distance which invited 32 women participants from Istanbul to share footsteps and a discussion on where it feels like home for them. While the participant was walking towards the place which she describes as “home” in Istanbul, I walked with her in my city, connected via a phone call. With the following questions; “If I ask you to walk me home, where would you take me? Does home mean feeling safe? What makes you feel at home? Is it where you live now or a different place? Or is it not even a place? Now, it is time to walk and find home!” – we were searching together for the answer of what could be the meaning of “home”.
